The last thing you want to worry about when leaving your parents, grandparents or disabled loved ones in the care of a facility such as a nursing home, home care situation, or hospital is if they will be treated appropriately. Elder abuse is a growing concern in this country. As people live longer, their medical and financial issues become more complex and involved. There is now a larger group of older persons in America today than ever before, and with that comes a growing group of concerned loved ones. Elder abuse may arise from physical, psychological, financial or legal maltreatment. This could involve abuse, neglect, abandonment, isolation, or any treatment resulting in physical harm, mental suffering, or deprivation of necessities or essential services. This maltreatment could be at the hands of an institution such as a nursing home, or home care facility, or while under the care of a guardian or family member. My Personal CrusadeThe subject of elder abuse involving nursing home facilities or other care institutions is a personal crusade of mine. In my career as a concerned attorney, I have assisted in the writing and development of legislation addressing elderly abuse and neglect in the state of Arizona entitled the "Adult Protective Services Act". This active involvement has given me an insider’s view into the issues of elder abuse in this state and the laws governing its control. As the population of elderly citizens increases, the occurrences of abuse continue to rise. It is imperative that legal action is taken in order to hold the offending parties accountable. In this way, change can be initiated and it is less likely that the same party will be allowed to repeat the abuse onto another victim. Focused CommitmentPeople often feel helpless in caring for an aging family member or one with a significant disability. In cases of abuse, a professional they trusted has let them down. I pledge to focus my commitment to a thorough investigation of the facts and to provide the best advice and course of action legally available. My initial investigation and evaluation is always at no cost to you. I welcome clients from the Phoenix area as well.
